Is Vic Chesnutt Dead? Singer in Coma, Believed To Still Be Alive

Critically acclaimed singer-songwriter Vic Chesnutt fell into a coma after an alleged and unconfirmed suicide attempt on Christmas Eve. On Christmas Day, various reports are surfacing about whether Vic Chesnutt is dead or not.

One Vic Chesnutt blog has posted that Vic Chesnutt is dead and Twitter users, such as Henry Owings of Chunklet, are eulogizing the singer. 

As of this point, however, it appears that Vic Chesnutt is still alive. The singer's record label confirmed that the Vic Chesnutt is in a coma with family and friends at his side.

Vic is in the middle of a serious medical situation, he is in a coma, and his family and friends are with him,” said Constellation Records’ Don Wilkie in a statement. “We have no comment right now on the specifics other than that his doctors are continuing to assess his condition. We will issue a full statement at an appropriate time. In the interim, we request that everybody respect Vic’s privacy and that of his family.”

Reports that Vic Chesnutt fell into a coma after a suicide attempt have yet to be confirmed.

Vic Chesnutt was left a paraplegic after a car accident when he was 18. He was discovered by REM singer Michael Stipe and has developed a cult following.
