Video: Entrance to a 'Hidden Fortress' on Dover's Western Heights

The 'North Entrance' on Dover's Western Heights consists of a blocked-off road tunnel and the skeletal remains of two single-lane bridges.

Hardly the stuff, one might think, to be worth risking life and limb for in order to make an amateur video.

Hardly the kind of subject, for that matter, that one expects to further excite the imagination of someone whose interest has been momentarily caught by a title.

But these bridges aren't ordinary bridges, and nor is the tunnel an ordinary tunnel.

In fact, there is nothing 'ordinary' at all about the Western Heights: if you watch these two videos then you will discover some of the secrets of a vast Napoleonic military complex, most of which lies either underground or below ground level.

You will be going places that many local people do not even know exist.
