View hosts react to Obama win, Sherri Shepherd's emotional break down
On the November 5, 2008 edition of The View, co-hosts Elisabeth Hasselbeck and Sherri Shepherd embraced the calm of Obama's victory. Staunch Republican Hasselbeck and Obama supporter Shepherd finally called a truce to their campaign long battle of political wits. The co-hosts both reacted to the historic moment with different displays of respect for Obama.
Hasselbeck took her lead from Republican candidate John McCain and graciously accepted Obama's win and the good it could bring to the nation. Shepherd was overcome with emotion over the historical win, and happy to show viewers of The View her feelings with tears of joy.
Both of The View women clearly demonstrated the sense of unity and hope that President-elect Obama called for in his election night acceptance speech. During the campaign the The View co-hosts often sparred over their political differences. Hasselbeck went on regular anti-Obama rants and was particularly critical of Michelle Obama.
