Vish, an Indian RAW agent, who is on a mission, joins Al Qaeda in Afghan as a spy and tries to save USA from a major destruction. Well, there is a popular belief in cinema that a good film (or rather a hit film) should be able to convey its plot within the first 40 minutes. Failing which, will not keep the audience engaged. Kamal seems to have failed miserably yet again on this front.
Kamalhaasan, the screenwriter, as usual, has a lot of things to convey right from nuclear science to terrorism. His dialogues did not keep pace with the movie and fails to ease out the complicated storyline. Wonder how famous writers like Sujatha had flair of conveying even complex theories in such a simple way, that a front bencher can appreciate.
Mahesh Narayanan’s editing seems to have done a major damage. The film traverses through horizons so swiftly and does not help maintaining the continuity in most parts. The cast of the film is adequate and passable. Rahul Bose’s performance stands out of all.
The movie has set high standards for its technical brilliance. The action scenes in Afghan and US were so wonderfully canned that left the audience in complete awe. The movie demands to be watched in big screen to appreciate its richness.
The screenplay kept the audience guessing about Kamal’s character, for a major part of the film. While it was designed purposefully, it rather did not help the film, as it tested the viewer’s patience.
The film’s theme song seems to be “Ivan Yaar endru therigiradha?” No wonder the audience kept wondering the same all through the film.
