NP Rank:
'Wall-E' Named 'Best Picture' of 2008 by LA Film Critics
Pixar has done it again. Their latest animated epic "Wall-E" has become an instant classic and, "for the first time in movie history", has been named "Best Picture" of 2008 by the Los Angelees Film Critics Association.
This is seen as a legitimate indication that the film could be nominated for an Academy Award in the same category.
If you've yet to seen this Pixar masterpiece, see it now before the year is out.
In my humble opinion, it is truly the best film of the year.
For the first ti me in movie history, The Los Angeles Film Critics Association named an animated film as "Best Picture" of 2008.Wall-E -- which stands for Waste Allocation Load Lifter Earth-Class -- won the hearts of critics without saying a word while the human characters chattered around him/her/it.
The big face-off will be at the Oscars, where Wall-E and Kung-Fu Panda (which we liked better, frankly) are sure to go head-to-CPU in the Best Animated Feature category.

A LEGO robotic version of Wall-E is being displayed at the LEGO Group's museum, the Idea House. LEGO is celebrating the 10th anniversary of the MINDSTORMS robotics system with a display showing its history.
As a robot, this model can move around and move its arms and head.

I agree, it is the best film I saw this year. The lack of dialog in Wall-E is a very difficult thing to pull off in animation, but, Pixar managed to do it, spectacularly.
I would recommend that anyone who enjoyed this movie check out the Wall-E screenplay [Warning: PDF]. It reads like a book.

I'm 31, and a big fan of Pixar's works, and I have to say this film was my favourite of 2008 so far.
The Dark Knight came a close second.

Pixar is the most creative outfit in modern motion pictures and if you've ever doubted that this movie will change your mind. WALL-E is so lovable there are now Christmas ornaments, plush toys, books, posters and they are high in demand.

Truth be told I've never been a fan of Disney or Pixar and their sickly vision of what "cute" is supposed to be, but the moment I saw a clip on Craig Fergusson I knew I had to see this film.
I'm a softie when it comes to silly faces and creatures. And he truly is cute. Even the dubbed German voice they put on him was cute. I laughed and I cried a little.
Shame, but I suspect that the film's message about consumerism and waste was lost on the overweight kids with the Happy Meals sitting a few rows ahead of us. Oh well.

I doubt that. If you watch it one more time ( I bet you will watch it) you will notice that , when the space craft leaves the Earth's orbit, it filled with junk satelites - like a ring ( shell?? )of a Saturn.
Another hit against consumerism is , when Wall-E finds a weding ring in box, he simply throws away the ring and keeps the box for his collection.
These are powerful scenes that convey the message in a very sedate way.
