On several occasions Martin Luther King Jr. expressed a view that black Americans, as well as other disadvantaged Americans, should be compensated for historical wrongs. Speaking to Alex Haley in 1965, he said that granting black Americans only equality could not realistically close the economic gap between them and whites. King said that he did not seek a full restitution of wages lost to slavery, which he believed impossible, but proposed a government compensatory program of US$50 billion over ten years to all disadvantaged groups. He posited that "the money spent would be more than amply justified by the benefits that would accrue to the nation through a spectacular decline in school dropouts, family breakups, crime rates, illegitimacy, swollen relief rolls, rioting and other social evils."[47] His 1964 book Why We Can't Wait elaborated this idea further, presenting it as an application of the common law regarding settlement of unpaid labor.[48]

I might remind everyone, that this issue described by Rev. King is very much alive today, and is a long discourse of  Law @ Practice toward bringing Justice to decendants of Black Americans. Why is it that War seems to be the discourse in stopping Black America in realizing some sort of legal verdict in compensation to the decendants of Black Americans? Rev. King was working on this before the Vietnam War was ramped up, and he was successfully silenced by CIA operatives who work for the USA secret government. We know them, they killed JFK and Bobby, and orchestrated 911 too.

It's pretty obvious why they create war, in order to put more emphasis on something other than bringing closure to discrimination in America. By keeping the American people occupied with funding a war, it makes it impossible to fund or expend legal judgments to Black American Society. It keeps the power base in white society, as being the Justice Magistrates toward their corrupt ideas of equality, never mind how black society views it.

This is really a high brow beater to think our govenment wages war in order to continue to disenfranchise Black Americans. It works so well because people have not figured out that by doing this on a cyclical basis people will unintentionally blame Black Americans for causing the race problems when they start to demand equal rights and compensation, because a war has been started to prevent them to achieve equal status through legal compensated judgements in America. Be happy with what you've got they will claim. We have a war going on, and we want you to help fight this war. Those who engineer the war plans know very well that money given to Black Society would be used against them to oust them from prominent positions in power, so better to start a war than to be a victim of it. And the more it costs to wage War the better, because Americans can not possibly afford to do both. Subsequently Black America is left for the vultures.

In the meantime white society will appoint black people to cabinet posts such as Condolessa Rice, Colin Powell, Clarence Thomas, and others to afford the claim they support equal rights to blacks as long as there is no legal compensation awarded to them because of the issue of slavery in early America.

We can see how this transpires when we see one document signed by Lincoln called the Emancipation Proclamation. In all of Lincolns history he never spoke out against slavery, but in this one document he is said to support the ending of slavery in America. What do we have we here a Jeckyll and Hyde Lincoln? It makes one consider that the document is a fraud. And the fraud is to assure that Black Americans never are compensated for slavery when it became outlawed. Rev. King really exposed this, and I think is the real reason to his assassination.

The Civil War had enough death and dying and so where would they get the funds to compensate? This is why I believe the Emancipation Proclamation is a fraudulent document, procured by those in government to put a lid on the calamity of America's Justice System.

In America thereby continuing discrimination and hate toward black Americans, war is used as a subject to avoid Justice to our culture Black America.  When we have war, we have something for Black Americans to do and that is to fight it, never mind if it was a lie, or orchestrated by the power elite wigs, because they aim to keep that power in their laps.

It would not be good to have America admit to paying reparations to Black Americans, because in fact it would destroy the whole image of the Civil War. Why didn't Lincoln settle on a compensation for emancipation? One reason is that he wanted them to work as soldiers to help eradicate Native American Indians and take the land for the United States.

During the 19th century, dozens of countries, including the British and Spanish empires, ended slavery peacefully through compensated emancipation. Among such countries were Argentina, Colombia, Chile, all of Central America, Mexico, Bolivia, Uruguay, the French and Danish colonies, Ecuador, Peru, and Venezuela. (Lincoln did propose compensated emancipation for the border states, but coupled his proposal with deportation of any freed slaves. He failed to see it through, however). Only in America was war associated with emancipation. http://www.lewrockwell.com/dilorenzo/dilorenzo44.html

The current Administration who I believe are the sewing needles to the secret government in America, needed 911 orchestrated to create this permanent war, and to put to bed, this on going legal battle in compensating Black America. With the huge Prison Expansion in America housing over one million Black Americans, they should be happy for a free meal & cot for 20 years; is their thinking. Someone has to pay for the lives of American soldiers killed during war. Someone has to pay the cost for injuried Vets, but hey its worth it to do it this way, because we will remain in power they think. Hell Republicans have no choice. What!  give up white power because of  blacks $*!^funk?

Bush claims this war this time is not about Oil, but we know it is to a great extent. They know that Oil is on the decline and Global Warming is an issue. What possible good could come from not waging the war? Blacks would start bringing up Compensation claims again. We were told that by winning the war Oil prices would come down. But we certainly don't see that happening. In fact it has become quite the opposite. It was better for Saddam to stay in power to assure low gas prices.. And who does this affect? Black America? Yes.

Why, ..well we have a Black Senator named Barack Obama who will stir things up and give them hope and then he will lose to Hillary. GW Bush has already claimed Hillary as a worthy opponent. Since Republicans got the war going his hands will be tied anyway in case he should win. So he is no threat to reviving Rev. Kings claims. Therefore change for Obama is a pie in the sky of dreams, especially when Obama does not associate with Rev. Kings legacy. He knows he can not win against this conspiracy to Black American Society. Rev. Wright gave him a jolt in trying to wake him up, and lets see what happens. If Obama joined the effort of Rev. Kings legacy  we would dearly hope to see the Promise Land of truth. If he does not embrace Rev. King he will lose.

Many people being black only reminds many Americans of our failed Judicial System. The discrimination comes when whites fail to take responsibility in bridging Justice to the injustice commited by the sins of America's Fathers . Those sins are still with us, and until we look at this issue as a responsibility issue of America instead of displacing the responsibility we will continue to have discrimination . Is it our fault that people go hungry in the world, and so since we are not responsible for their condition we forget about it? Of course not! A Christian Nation stands together to help those in need.

Black America Slavery supported America with free labor for over half of its existence as a nation, and we are to think Rev. King is wrong or greedy to seek Justice for Black Americans? On the contrary. He is as right and legitimate as any Legal Law Journal can be. In 1968 in order to stop these claims they actually killed Rev. King. But this does not mean it has gone away, nor does it mean that we give up where Rev. King  left off.

Many people in todays world think because they had nothing to do with Slavery in those days, they are not responsible for the bad things that happened to Black Americans. I like to point out that since it happened under the auspices of the United States of America, all people who support the USA are responsible. This is the reason Obama does not support Rev. King, because people will come out in groves to prevent his Presidential bid in securing what King advocated. This is why he doesn't mention Rev. King. He wants us to forget Rev. King? God Help us!

I look at it in another way and that is we only need to see how America has become by ignoring the claims by Rev. King when we see Prison expansionism at its highest capacity with more than 1 million black inmates incarcerated. It was 7 blacks to every 1 white in 1990. http://66.218.69.11/search/cache...&icp=1& .intl=us

The issue is that if we did the right thing as Rev. King suggested I believe the black prison population would be much lower, with more educated people, and being more affluent. This means much less racial prejudices, and less crime. No matter how we look at it, American Prisons reflect Racism in America, and as time goes on people associate blacks as being bad people worthy of prison. This is all for White Societies Power grab in not fulling the obligations of Law for discrimination to Blacks during the time of Slavery, and the fraud of the Civil War?

It is such a travesty to Black America, because essentially they have gone from Slavery to Prison since the founding of our Country. It is quite obvious how embarrassing it is in this year 2008 that we finally have the first black American to run for President. And he is only 1/2 black. Those who say we do not owe or have a responsibilty to Black America are not American. Obama talking gleefully ungrounded assertions that there is no White or Black America is in my opinion bias and oppressive in order to prolong the agony and suffering of America. When they killed Rev. King they hurt themselves, and now we see what we have.WAR.

I work to support Rev. King and to be open and tell the truth about his legacy and to bring Justice to Black America and to Establish the Political Framework toward a Nonviolent Society. This means abolishing War.This means telling it straight to Obama.

djermano, as this is an opinion piece, we request that you add 'Opinion:' tag to your headline and in the tag field of the story. Thanks.

djermano

You are to fast to tell me. I am still editing it. I know.

Jarrett Martineau

Sorry about that! Thanks for the updates.

Enoch Mubarak

Before you could finish editing this thought provoking piece there was a rush to judgement to classify it which indicates that a lack of interest in what you are saying is present and that justice for black America is not the final objective.

Your opinion makes logical sense and is worthy of discussion for Obama's enlightment but unfortunately America is not trying to hear you, because under the gentleman's agreement the decendents of slaves must never be allowed on par or to overcome through progressive measures the decendents of slave masters.

djermano

Thanks Enoch,

But I think it is very early to make such a claim as a lack of interest. We struggle in America with racism, and people fail to see the real causes behind it.  Obama fails himself to listen to his own Pastor, and to take up the real Agenda to America's destiny, and that is supporting Nonviolence. Your last phrase in the comment to a gentlemens agreement is not even close to the reality in which Slave decendents will not become decendents of Slave Masters but of Prison Guards instead.
