Was Ed McMahon's Star Vandalized on Wednesday Night?

It appears from some eyewitness photos, that Ed McMahon's star on the Hollywood Walk of fame was vandalized last night. There were no flowers there and no cards, just shredded newspaper and some black paint and tar over his name. It is not clear what happened, but fans are calling it a sign of disrespect toward the late entertainer.
Luckily, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce cleaned it up that night and things are back to normal.
