James Franco Oscar 2011 Interview

The young couple hosted the 2011 Oscars on Sunday night, and already, it appears that critics think Hathaway was perhaps a little better than her co-host, but overall, the whole show was just bad.

James Franco, for the most part, just looked bored with whatever he was doing, and some reviews have even gone as far as to suggest that he looked high throughout the whole thing.

The Hollywood Reporter said "Franco seemed distant, uninterested and content to keep his Cheshire-cat-meets-smug smile on display throughout,” THR said. “This year, the Oscars hit a new low. Like it fell into a hole."

Many seemed particularly confused when Franco appeared on stage in drag, for what seemed to be no apparent reason, and when Anne Hathaway expressed that it had been a 'good year for lesbians.'

Many are also wondering if it was appropriate or funny for Justin Timberlake to draw out his presenter speech in the same manner as Hollywood legend Kirk Douglas - we say no, it wasn't.

What Did you think of the 2011 Oscars, and did you think James Franco looked high?

yeah, cuz "hotness" is an accurate determining factor in whether or not someone can do their job competently

I thought Timberlake was great. Kirk Douglas was easily the worst part of the whole show. JUST PRESENT THE AWARD OLD MAN, YOU'RE NOT FUNNY!

For the most part I think he was high.

he was on some pills for sure. his pre-oscar interview was proof. He gradually sobered up throughout the night and seemed more coherent, albeit lame.  I honestly htink they pulled him from the show, i think he was supposed to do a duet with Anne (which they changed to a solo) and the cross-dress deal was his own idea to get back on stage to make his g-ma happy.

The Oscars sucked this year -- poor movies and sloppy entertainment.

I have been watching the Oscars for years, and this was--by far--the WORST Oscars I have ever watched.  I mean PAINFULLY bad.  The hosts sucked, the movies weren't much better, and I disagreed with most of the choices of winners.  Kirk Douglas should ride off into the sunset and never, EVER be seen again; he was horrible and it was another painful moment to watch.  James Franco ruined the event for me in hosting it.  I have always liked Anne Hathaway, but I don't think she was a good choice to host either. Two thumbs and 2 big toes down from this viewer.  If I could give it a grade lower than an F-, I would.

Franco did seem like he was... on something, and nearly everyone I've talked to today about the Oscar's seemed to think so, too. I mean, James Franco is just a weird guy in generally so I'm not sure whether it was just his natural oddness or if he was genuinely high, but he really seemed like it. He didn't do a great job, Hathaway pretty much carried the both of them. Kirk Douglass was definitely not quite fit to be up there reading off a teleprompter/script whatever, and it was a bit uncomfortable to watch. For the most part, they were boring and slow. The movies were decent, King's Speech and The Social Network seeming like the overall most deserving ones. Still think Fincher got robbed for best director. Hopefully next year's show will be better.

i totally agree with most comments that the hosts both sucked. franco was funny on saturday night live so i expected some of that odd quirkiness to come thru with youthful exhuberance ....instead i got a guy who looked bored...then high...then uninterested...then snooty..snobby...etc.ann is a slightly annoying actress who is just ok...not that funny...not that good an actress..but i thought together maybe it would work..no...answer? noshe was godawful...she kept laughing at her quips..that nobody else laughed at...she was not a good singer...not a good dancer.....she was excruciatingly irritating and they both did an overall absolute horrible job.the only happy person? letterman...who i love..but blew his one and only shot at hosting....letterman finally can say someone or ..should i say..some people..were worse than him.oh..and PS....to those though that say it was embarassing to have kirk douglas out there....and should be hidden away...real nice folks..nice caring..the guy is a hollywood legend and still despite a stroke has some good cells in his brain rattling around and typical to most people...lets take our old folks that are doing a bit rough and hide them in the old folks home....geez..have some compassion..sure it was a bit uncomfortable..but that is what life does to it....its not always pretty or fair...so it was ok with me seeing him out there......

James Franco was probably high, but that didn't affect his performance. It made him funnier if anything. His nonchalant attitude was supposed to go against Hathaway's extremely happy and peppy attitude. They were both pretty funny. Also to the part about James Franco dressing in drag for "no apparent reason"... Hathaway dressed as a guy, so Franco dressed as a girl. Not the funniest thing, but still had valid reasoning for it. To be honest, Kirk Douglas is a legend and he might've been one of the funniest parts of this year's Oscars. He flirted with the women, which is classic, and he did the whole "Ya know.." thing. Excellent old school comedy. (Throwing it out there that i'm 20 before people start calling me old or something) Lastly, I don't think Timberlake was out of line at all... I've never seen him as that funny of a guy. Finally he makes one good joke about Kirk Douglas' "ya know" and he's accused of being out of line. It was a joke and everyone needs to tone it down a notch. I'll admit this wasn't the best oscars. The entertainment was a little more than mediocre, the hosts were funny because of their contrasting personalities among other thing, and... well yea the movies weren't really the greatest. I mean the best picture was a flick about brits sitting down drinking tea with the king. Woah! Exciting movie right there.

Yes, I did think Franco looked totally lit up particularly toward the end of the show. Then again, why not? - he's wearing a Tux (or for a red dress), at the Oscars
