March 6 - The numbers for Watchmen's midnight screening have been released and the movie grossed $4.6 million from 1,595 of the 3,611 theaters screening it that had a showing. By comparison, director Zack Snyder's previous movie 300 made $2.5 million from it's midnight shows. That movie's opening weekend gross was $70.9 million.

March 6 - Early reports are indicating that the Friday gross for Watchmen is somewhere between $24-28 million.

March 7 - Early estimates say $25.2 million. And, yes, that includes the midnight gross. Considering that it is an R-rated 2 hr and 45 min movie it is a good gross.

March 7 - Friday gross is $25.1 million. Expect a weekend gross of about $70-75 million. Which is great for an R-rated movie.

March 8 - Early estimates for Saturday say $18.7 million. The Fri + Sat gross is $43.8 million. At this point I see the movie's weekend gross at about $60 million.

March 8 - Weekend gross: $55.6 million. The Saturday gross was $19 million and the Sunday is estimated at $11.5 million.

Opening-weekend models can be accurately used to predict the returns on a film's first run, but it doesn't take a PhD in economics to see that this film will do very well.
