Variety is reporting that online ticket sales for Watchmen are outpacing 300 by four to one. 300 opened with $70.9 million in March 2007 and went on to gross $210.6 million domestically and $456 million worldwide. 300 and Watchmen are both directed by Zack Snyder.

As for IMAX, one third of all ticket sales are for Watchmen.

Watchmen opens this weekend. It is rated R and has a 2 hour and 45 minuter running time. While the movie will open big, the R-rating and length could affect the money it makes throughout its entire run in theaters.

I can't say I know what all the fuss is about with this film, but I think I want to go see it anyway.

I have heard that although a comic book drama the producers are going after the adult mainstream. I agree that the rating and the length could be trouble in either the older teen or mainstream markets. Two hours and 45 minutes is a bit over the top.
