We voted for change so why is change so hard to accept when status quo suffers?

For the better part of the past year, we have been showered with promises of change.  We were told the old way of doing things wasn't working.  We were told that change would be a good thing.  It was suggested that to survive, change was necessary.  Why then are we having a difficult time accepting these changes?  You may ask what changes do I speak of?

Well, for instance how about the collapse of the Big 3 auto firms?  Or the demise of other companies deemed too large to fail?  After all, these are changes.  Granted, they are not the changes that we were promised.  Nevertheless, change is change.

Could it be that we really wanted to keep everything the same and just change those things that were preventing us from keeping things the same?  Kind of confusing if you ask me.
