Wes Anderson's stop-motion animated feature 'The Fantastic Mr. Fox' will open this year's London Film Festival. The film is based on Roald Dahl's children's story about a family of foxes that must use their cunning to escape three evil farmers.
"It was the first book I ever owned," says the auteur behind The Royal Tenenbaums and The Darjeeling Limited. "My brothers and I loved Mr. Fox and all the digging. We were obsessed with underground forts and tunnels."
The film was shot at London's Three Mills Studios and features many well-known voices - George Clooney, Meryl Streep, Bill Murray, Anjelica Huston all use their voices in the film. Several British actors have also played a role.
Those left wanting more after watching Henry Selick's film based on Neil Gaiman's Coraline are surely in for a treat. Anderson has shown a preference for Selick`s animation style in the past:
Ever since he asked stop-motion specialist Henry Selick to create exotic sea creatures for 2004's The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou, Wes Anderson has been enamored with this painstaking process of animation.
The 53rd London Film Festival runs Oct. 14 to 29. "Fantastic Mr. Fox" opens in Britain Oct. 23 and in the U.S. on Nov. 13.
