The Wes Moore Story on Oprah: Two Men, One Name
The Wes Moore Story was on Oprah April 27, About Two Men With the Same Name Living in Baltimore
Wes Moore grew up in Baltimore, but there was another man named Wes Moore just two years older and their lives could not be more different.
One in now serving a life sentence in prison for felony murder, while the other is a Rhodes Scholar, a White House Fellow and a business leader.
Oprah explored this story on her show on April 27 and looked at how two men with the same name growing up in the same place could have two very different lives and fates.
"Wes wondered how two young men from the same city, who were around the same age, and even shared a name, could arrive at two completely different destinies
The Wes Moore who wrote the new book out on April 27 called The Other Wes Moore, decided to write to the other Wes Moore and received a reply back from prison. He visited his other counterpart in jail and both men found many parallels between their lives.
They both grew up without fathers, and had difficult childhoods, and both had trouble in school. However, each man made a different decision that ultimately shaped their lives on two completely different paths.
It was in December 2000 when the author Wes Moore was receiving praise for the The Rhodes Scholarship, while the other Wes Moore was appearing in news articles for the murder of an off-duty Baltimore police officer.
Two men, two different fates.
