Social media is all the rage and traditional music television formats are dead in the water. So why not bring these two worlds together to try something new?

That's exactly what MTV's latest show proposes to do.

What You're Watching is a "joint venture" between MTV, Facebook, and Twitter that will target a youth audience and aim to integrate television programming with 'audience generated content' of real-time tweets and status updates.

Expect a non-stop stream of LOLs and ZOMGs.

Faced with slumping prime-time ratings and dwindling ad revenues, MTV is hoping that showing live tweets, Facebook updates and even RockYou videos will get teens excited about its new show, What You’re Watching With Alexa Chung. Blending social media with TV content is a no-brainer (especially for a network whose target audience is the 18-24 set). What’s more unusual is that MTV sharing some of the ad revenue with Facebook and Twitter.

What You’re Watching will be a “joint venture” between MTV and the two social-media properties, according to AdAge, which means that for once, Facebook and Twitter will be getting more than just “exposure” in exchange for letting a content provider make use of their platform.

MTV should have every show on facebook and twitter, it should be in actor's contract to have a blog or tweet, lol.

I found a whole list of tools for twitter, now I got over 1000 followers. You must check out TweetCustom.com  They have a friggin Library of twitter stuff on they page. Twitter nerds to be exact.
