Whitney Houston Funeral Set for This Week in Newark

The funeral for pop star Whitney Houston will take place during the week of February 13 in Newark, New Jersey. [Update: Whitney Houston's funeral is scheduled for Saturday, February 18 at New Hope Baptist Church. This is not a public service, and will be by invitation only.]

The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has cleared Whitney Houston's family to collect her body. This is part of the normal routine when someone dies under unknown circumstances, but, in this case, it is subject to public scrutiny.

Whitney Houston's body will be flown to New Jersey aboard Tyler Perry's private jet on February 13.

Meanwhile, mourners have been gathering at New Hope Baptist Church, where Whitney Houston got her start. A memorial for Whitney Houston was held on Sunday, February 12. It's not clear if her funeral will be held at the same church.

What Killed Whitney Houston?

The coroner has not divulged the cause of Whitney Houston's death, but confirmed that there was not enough water in the singer's lungs to indicate death by drowning.

Family sources say that Whitney Houston died due to a mixture of prescription drugs and alcohol. Medication including Xanax, Midol, amoxicillin, and ibuprofen were found in the singer's hotel room, but not in large quantities. Also, no illegal narcotics were reported at the scene.
