Whoopi Goldberg Defends Mel Gibson on The View (Video)
Whoopi Goldberg Says Mel Gibson is a 'Bonehead' But He's Not a Racist
Whoopi Goldberg defended her friend Mel Gibson on The View on Monday saying that she could not believe he was a racist, but she did call him a 'bonehead' and an 'a**hole'.
Goldberg said that although she did not like what Gibson had done, she knew that he is not a racist.
"I have had a long friendship with Mel. You can say he's being a bonehead, but I can't sit and say that he's a racist having spent time with him in my house with my kids."
When asked by Joy Behar what she thought of Gibson's anti-Semitic rant in 2006, Goldberg replied that he was drunk and that drunks do not know what they are saying and they don't necessarily believe it either.
A series of tapes have been released now of Mel Gibson talking to his previous girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva and he is heard using racial slurs and admitting he hit Grigorieva in the face:
Miss Grigorieva is heard saying: "Hitting a woman when she's holding a child in her hands? Breaking her teeth twice in the face? What kind of man is that?"
Gibson responds: "Oh, you're all angry now. You know what? You ------- deserved it."

Whoopie...GO GIRL! I very much admire your honesty and loyalty. Your willingness to go out on a limb sharing personal experiences is terrific - in addition, addressing the rebuttal of some folks on national TV then moving on to something else is heroic on your part. Thanks for being such a great role model. Another very nice asset of yours...respectful! You are the only person on The View who doesn't insist of talking simultaneously with another hostess. I love The View and all the gals but would enjoy the program a whole lot more if most gals didn't try to speak at the same time. Love watching you Whoopie...and I absolutely LOVE "Sister Act I & II!!!! If you're ever in Maine...what an honor it would be to meet you! Thanks ~ jcs

Both *Diasporans and Jews have experienced oppression, but Diasporans have more experience in the insult department than any other group, which maybe why we're less sensitive, and why we have not taken Mel Gibson's remarks to heart. Whoopi Goldberg says, she knows from frequent and personal interactions with Mel, that he's not a racist. I know it too, because Mel Gibson has almost single-handedly brought more Diasporans to the screen than any other actor, in rolls that we can be proud of. A true racist, would never do that!
"Lethal Weapon will be remembered as the original cop buddy movie, which spawned several sequels and a dozen copycat films. In 1987, the on-screen pairing of a black actor and a white actor on equal terms was still novel, an element of the film that was also copied by its imitators."

Yahoo Whoopie! You ROCK. You are talented, wise and funny. You say things that we all think, but either don't have the guts to say or are not talented enough to get the words out the way you do. I love you! You are the best and you are the reason I catch The View. I would also like to tell you I appreciate your open mind and thank you for helping me realize we should all be ourselves that is what makes our lives exciting!

What's interesting is that Whoopi , as a black woman is not offended...because she knows Mel. But a bunch of people around the world ,who do not know him on a personal level will judge hin.
