This is the end of TomKat. After nearly six years of marriage, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes are getting a divorce. According to TMZ, Katie Holmes is the one who filed for divorce, and she is seeking sole custody of daughter Suri.

Let the rumor mill begin grinding. The first reason floated for Tom Cruise's and Katie Holmes' separation will surely be Cruise's fierce commitment to Scientology, which was also blamed for Cruise's divorce from Nicole Kidman. Tom Cruise was introduced to Scientology through his first wife, Mimi Rogers.

There is also the persistent rumor that Tom Cruise is gay. Not that it matters to you: you won't be hooking up with Tom Cruise, so forget it. Instead, look up "confirmation bias".

Tom Cruise is 49 while Katie Holmes is 33, so the difference in age and experience could have been a factor. Or, hey, maybe Katie Holmes just hates how Tom Cruise makes peanut butter sandwiches. Remember, around half of American marriages end in divorce. It's by no means rare.

TMZ further reports that, in citing "irreconcilable differences", Katie Holmes meant she couldn't deal with any more Scientology, and doesn't want it in Suri's life".

An attorney for Katie Holmes told People, This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family. Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's best interest." 

Look, there's no way that media outlets will respect TomKat's privacy. That's just not going to happen. Tom Cruise's relationship with Katie Holmes was met with skepticism from the get-go. The weird photo-op in Rome and the Oprah couch-jumping incident did not help.
