Why were the media censored by NYPD during removal of Occupy WS?

Why were the media blacked out from covering the removal of protestors from Zuccotti Park on the early morning of November 15th, by New York City police? A news helicopter was forced to land. Why? Why were the police suppressing media coverage and arresting and barring journalists from filming the removal? That is America? That sounds more like China. If the excuse is that this was too dangerous a scene, than journalists shouldn't be in war zones? Freedom of the press only applies where there is no chance of violence? Give me a break.

Also, did Oakland police violate their own rules when it comes to the use of force during Occupy Oakland? Such as not shooting indiscriminately (with than "lethal" force) at a crowd if only a segment of that crowd is behaving illegally. Such as throwing tear gas cannisters directly in a crowd or shooting rubber bullets. How about Cal Berkeley university police using their clubs to break up protestors locked arm in arm? The head of that university stated that this tactic isn't non-violent peaceful protest. Really?
