Starting THIS Sunday, the Nintendo Wii will be sold for $199. That's the same price as Xbox Arcade and $100 cheaper than Playstation 3. And it will retain the sports bundle. The price drop is clearly as a result of the recession and demand for the system dropping because of it. However, this price drop is only available in the United States. People living in other countries will have to wait since no announcement has been made.

Maybe Nintendo should use this video for a whole new promotion!

The majority of Canadians live within two hours' drive of the US border, so expect a spike in "tourism"...

(I cannot allow myself to have a Wii, since Mario Kart Racing and Guitar Hero would turn me into a total shut-in)

Yet again the UK misses out on any price reductions for the Wii, so say because of the exchange rate between the Yen and Pound (funny how this isn't an issue for Sony).

Nintendo have reduced the trade price slightly to the retailers, but it is up to the retailer if they pass on any reduction to the customer. This is unlikely as many retailers already absorbed a price increase from Nintendo in March of this year.

Nintendo have, however, annouced a new bundle consisting of the Wii console with remote, a nunchuck controller, a MotionPlus accessory with the original Wii Sports and the new sequel Wii Sports Resort. Due for release in the first week of October 2009.
