Will Ashton Kutcher Punk CNN in Twitter Follower Battle Royale?
Ring the bell, cuz it's on now baby!
Ashton "Mrs. Moore" Kutcher has challenged Ted "Ding Dong Ditch" Turner's CNN to a Twitter battle of epic proportions.
In this twittering cage match, the celebrity will go head-to-head against the cable news giant to see who can reach the elusive million follower mark on the microblogging site first.
In this corner, in the shades and hairband, weighing in at 950,943 followers (as of 8:22am PST) is Ashton Kuuuuuu-tcherrrrrrrr... and in the red logo, weighing in at 965,159 followers is CNN Breaking Newwwwwwwwwws!
Give it up for our competitors, ladies and gents — and let's get ready to ruuuuummble!
The celebrity and the news network are racing to get 1 million followers on the micro-blogging site, where users post 140-character messages.
Kutcher challenged CNN to the race with a Web video posted on Tuesday. If he wins, Kutcher says he will "ding-dong ditch" CNN founder Ted Turner's house.
"I found it astonishing that one person can actually have as big of a voice online as what an entire media company can on Twitter," Kutcher says in a video, which was shot from inside a car and was posted on Qik.com.
"So I just thought that was just kind of an amazing comment on the state of our media, and I said that, if I beat CNN to 1 million viewers, then I would ding-dong ditch Ted Turner -- because I don't think it's gonna happen."
UPDATE | 11:09am PST— One down, One to go...
As anticipated, Ashton Kutcher surpassed the million fan mark on Facebook today. At last count, he was already up to 1,027,600 fans.
Now he just needs to get those fans over to Twitterville to see if he can beat @CNNBrk to a milli.

Oddly enough CNN didn't own the twitter account. According to the Washington Post they have now bought it. This is the first time I'm aware of, that a twitter account has been bought.

And apparently Kutcher's going to surpass the 1,000,000 mark today on yet another social network — as he's almost reached 1 million Facebook Fans.

Kutcher should open his own PR agency. He has a natural talent for it.

Let me rephrase this :

It's win-win all around. Fame, Fortune, Kutcher, CNN, Oprah win (for starters). Larry King nabs Kutcher for his first live interview post-Twitter battle. And somewhere a lot of people win some healthier lives under a Mosquito net.
