Shatner Reads Palin On Conan

Actor William Shatner recited Sarah Palin's farewell speech during last night's episode of The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. The late-night comedian noted that he thought the Palin Farewell Speech sounded like a poem. To prove his point, he asked William Shatner to recite the Palin speech behind a jazz beat laid down by a bongo and a bass.

After listening to Shatner's spoken word performance on Conan, it's hard to believe that he actually was quoting Sarah Palin's farewell speech. Indeed, Shatner's Palin tribute was accurate. Here is the Sarah Palin Farewell Speech transcript. Shatner's poem begins in the third paragraph of Palin's speech.

Shatner has made quite the career of doing spoken word poetry. There's his classic version of Elton John's Rocket Man, a viral video that was circulated for decades before YouTube ever existed.

The Beat generation's greatest poet Jack Kerouac would have probably written something like that for Sarah Pailin, William Shatner read it out well and really brought new light to the speech's poetry : )
