The Winner Of The Late Night War Is. . .Chelsea Handler?!
On Monday night, Jay "Big Jaw" Leno returned as host of the Tonight show. After getting a break from the Late Night War, thanks to the Winter Olympics, we return with some interesting news.
The website, adage.com, has revealed the advertising revenue for the main late night programs in 2009. Everyone was down except for. . .Chelsea Lately! The show, whichs airs on E! at 11pm, features comedian Chelsea Handler moderating a panel discussion on current pop culture events and follows that with a celebrity interview. The program generated $40.7 million in revenue. It's only $100,000 less than The Colbert Report.
The biggest money-maker was Late Show with David Letterman which made $271 million. The Tonight show, which was hosted by Jay Leno for the first five months and by Conan O' Brien for the last seven months, was in second with $179.5 million. Jimmy Kimmel Live was in third with $138.1 million. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart was in fourth with $52.4 million. And, newcomer Lopez Tonight (hosted by George Lopez) was in seventh with a disappointing $9.1 million.
