The 2008 World Dog Show kicked off in Stockholm yesterday. 36 000 dogs are in town to compete in events with names like "obedience," "junior handling," and the unconventional sounding "freestyle" -- a contest in which dogs run around in a "minature Sweden." (I'm investigating "freestyle" but worlddogshow2008.se  has ground to a halt so its tough to find more info). Lacking any mainstream news sources, I turned to the blogosphere, where I was pleased to find an entry written by a dog.
Tomorrow is a Shiba Inu specialty show in Stockholm, a circuit show as the World Dog Show starts tomorrow and continues until Sunday. Shibas are shown at the World Dog Show on Sunday, but April and I will be shown on the specialty tomorrow as well. We have made preparations for the show today. Both of us have bathed and been groomed. Our full coats sparkle, if I may say so myself. There will be a competition never heard of before in Sweden on the World Dog Show and the shows around it. April and I believe that we are competitive, but we take nothing for granted. We go to the show mainly to have fun and meet new and old acquaintances. No matter what the result in the show, we will have fun, though we will do our best to get good results.
A person gave Day 1 a rave review.
We are in Sweden for some days to visit the world dog show. Today was the first day - We are tired but it was really nice to see so many dogs and wonderful breeds. We have choosed our new future breed, and soon we expect to have news here in our blog to introduce them. We will be back soon to Portugal.
Finally, this scathing post suggests there's some controversy over last year's "world's greatest dog."
