A sari is considered as one of the most beautiful and graceful of dresses. Now Chennai Silks, India's textile unit has come up with the world’s most expensive sari, worth US$ 100,000. The sari has eleven of painter Raja Ravi Verma's popular paintings woven with 12 precious stones and metals. The best part of the sari has the stunning woven painting 'Lady Musicians' in which are intricately hand-woven diamonds, platinum, silver, gold, rubies, emeralds, sapphires, pearls and corals. And it required the use of 7,440 jacquard hooks and 66,794 cards during the weaving process. Moreover, it took a group of weavers nearly 4,680 hours to complete the masterpiece.

rumana husain, I like this story as it shows precious stones creativity and prices go along when designing a sari. It's good stuff.

Thank you for your comments. I am a regular sari-wearer myself (on a daily basis) and this got me drooling too, though only as far as the design goes...as i don't care for the diamonds and the  sapphires!!
