World Teachers' Day Celebrated Globally
Today teachers around the world are celebrated for their invaluable role in the development of young students on World Teachers' Day 2009. In Ottawa, Prime Minister Steven Harper announced the recipients for the annual Prime Minister's Awards for Teaching and Excellence in Early Childhood Education to mark the occasion.
The awards were presented nationwide in the categories of excellence and achievement. Each award marks the role of a successful teacher who drives students to excel. Harper himself had this to say about what he considers to be the ideal candidate for such an award:
“A good teacher inspires a thirst for learning that lasts a lifetime,” said Prime Minister Harper. “The outstanding teachers honoured today are an inspiration to us all. They play an invaluable role in our children’s development and in the future success of our country.”
World Teachers' Day is a global celebration of the contributions that teachers make to development and education. On a global scale, the National Front of Teachers and Employees in Bangladesh represents half a million teachers and educators working in 30 thousand educational institutions. They are the largest united platform for this kind of representation for educators.
This year, the NFTE celebrates the contributions of retired or elderly teachers in particular, and the many years of hard work they have invested in the lives of others.
With the global teacher shortage being considered, each and every educator is especially valued today.
