Obama's the next president and the newest expansion for World of Warcraft, Wrath of the Lich King, is coming out next week; the world is good. I know several people who've been biting at the bit in anticipation of this expansion, which should break a few game selling records TONIGHT!

***Update***

You can watch the Lich King on several ustream servers tonight.

Twitter's a buzz (AGAIN!) with some people playing the expansion, and others waiting impatiently for WotLK.

Bizzard executives are hoping that this will boost their membership levels back to the 'old days' of their MMO monopoly, as most of their players have left to try out Age of Conan and Warhammer.

"To date, 68 percent of the players who listed Age of Conan as their reason for cancellation, and 46 percent of players who listed Warhammer as their reason for cancellation have reactivated their subscriptions to World of Warcraft."

Well, the buzz is definitely building as Twitter-ers are posting their 140 character love letters to the Lich King:

alexalbrecht: A week from Lich King, so excited I can't type, wait but I typed this? #haikuthursday begin ;)

DraconianOne: is quietly looking forward to Wrath of the Lich King expansion and getting my cold, undead hands on a Mechano-Hog

stealthbaz: My friend Dave has been talking about Wrath fo the Lich King. My ability to resist the hype is fading fast. At least I made it this far.

Blizzard's decided to add the Death Knight (bwahahaha), which -- if it's like any other new race/class -- will quickly become the most popular class in the game until Blizzard changes the stats to make him/her more fair (wimp). Level 80 is no longer a dream for grinders to pursue, but is now a virtual reality to attain in Northrend, the Lich King's home.

Here's a small list of other improvements and changes Blizzard will implement on November 14, 2008.

  • Learn the craft of spell augmentation with the new Inscription profession.
  • Engage in epic siege warfare, deploying mighty siege engines to lay waste to destructible buildings in your path.
  • Transform your hero's look with new character-customization options, including new hairstyles and dances.
  • Explore perilous new dungeons filled with some of the deadliest creatures -- and greatest treasures -- on Azeroth.

Keep coming back, 'cause this page will be updated regularly with new news, reviews and videos from the net.

And follow me on Twitter for... uh... stuff :)

WAR is PvP centric, so has a far smaller userbase to pull from, but it's not broken like Age of Conan (and I really wanted to play that game.) Also, few other game companies understand "fun games" in the way that Blizzard does. Until that change I don't think WoW will have any real competition.

This is a staged screenshot of one my characters (now deleted) from the game World of Warcraft. The interesting thing about the game is that you can (but don't have to) play a very "role playing" kind of game with your character name, looks and behaviour. I liked the idea of running with the pride of the Blood Elves (as described in the "lore") and imagined a warrior (actually a paladin) that was very pompous and strove for his own beauty in everything he did.

Ah those were the days. I don't play wow much at all anymore, but I look fondly back on it. (I'd be happier if it said Baldwin or Paul instead of Obama)

It's strange... every time I hear in-game music, I want to play, but after having played for an hour, it gets pretty boring.

The Deathknight creation screen is one of the best parts in creating one you can make your character so awesome you will love ever part of them.

Wow, this is such an old screenshot. It's hard to remember a time BEFORE the dressing room feature existed, but I was really excited when they put it in because it gave us the opportunity for fantasy inside of our fantasy world. Haha. "Wouldn't my character look cool if ___?!?!?" Night elves can't be warlocks, and Felheart is a warlock-only set, and I thought it was the coolest thing to dress myself up. We play this game for so many reasons, cosmetic gear upgrades (which also show off your status in a raiding guild or as a pvp giant) being just one of them.
