Yaletown parents camp for four days to compete for kindergarte...
This is officially out of hand. Camping out for four days to secure one of the 44 kindergarten spots in the downtown area? I love urban living, but someone might have reminded the city planners of the past 15 years that schools are a part of this. They build tiny apartments that you can't put a family in, then fail to build schools. This is why it is difficult to live downtown if you are a family.
orcing Yaletown children to attend schools outside their catchment area runs contrary to the concept of the neighbourhood, which was designed to let residents walk to work, shops and schools.
This was the message of Vancouver-Burrard NDP MLA Spencer Herbert yesterday, after parents camped in the snow outside Elsie Roy Elementary School for four days to claim one of the school’s 44 kindergarten spots.
