York Scouts half-way to John o' Groats
LIVERPOOL—A group of fourteen Scouts, Explorer Scouts and Scout Leaders from York, North Yorkshire reached the mid-way point of their journey from Land's End to John o' Groats as they crossed the River Mersey in Liverpool on Friday. The group embarked on the famed journey traversing the length of the island of Great Britain by bicycle last week to raise funds for charity.
Taking to two wheels the group have battled with everything a British summer could throw at them, from the hot sun to the soaking rain, covering approximately half their route as they reached Liverpool after a week's cycling. Undeterred by rain and wind in north-west England, the group continued to drive north over the weekend as organisers Michelle and Steve Wilson estimated just over a week remaining to reach John o' Groats.
Having raised money for the journey itself through community fundraising, those involved have collected sponsorships and donations which will go towards supporting the work of Martin House Children's Hospice in York, as well as to Scouting activities including sending a group of North Yorkshire Scouts to the World Scout Jamboree in 2011.
