Manchester—Volunteers for international human rights education group Youth for Human Rights International took to Manchester's busiest shopping street this Sunday to raise awareness of the fundamental rights and freedoms set out in the United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and to obtain support for a petition calling on "the British government and the entire public and private sector" to cause the Articles of the Universal Declaration to be "universally implemented", including by making human rights education mandatory in schools. The group chose this weekend to mark this year's UN International Youth Day, which fell on Thursday 12th August and launched the United Nations' International Year of Youth.
