Zac Efron Rumoured to Play Spider Man in 'Spider Man 4'

A number of media outlets are reporting that High School Muscial star Zac Efron is slated to take the role of Spider Man in the upcoming Spider Man 4. According to the article, Efron would receive a £9 million pay check for the role.
After the former-Peter Parker, Tobery Maguire confirmed he will not reprise his role in the upcoming film, scheduled to make its way to theaters in 2012 a studio insider squealed, “after dumping Spidey, Tobey then came to the rescue by recommending that Zac should take over his role.”
It is also being rumoured that Efron's real-life girlfriend and High School Musical co-star Vanessa Hudgens is on the top of the list for the role of Mary Jane, Peter Parker's love interest.
The upcoming film is being directed by Mark Webb who directed 2009's (500) Days of Summer.

This is totally unacceptable ... not only is Toby M. not playing the role he seemed so perfect for but they are giving it to a High School Musical reject. It was understood that when they changed Superman it was because the former one could no loner be superman. This ... this is just not ok.How will they explain this change in the movie? Will it be like on the fresh prince when the new vivian just appeared and everyone acted like it didnt just happen LOL

WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL U MEAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Zac Efron is not a well enough actor to take on the role of becoming the next face of "Spiderman". I mean come on ..... just compare and contrast . Taking over the role that Tobey Maguire as Spiderman ( which we all know hat he played so well). Zac is going to need more than a script to practice to get up on that level. As for Vanessa.......................... OMG!!!!!

If his is true, it is simply for money and it will probably not be a complete failure. Although it should be. The producers may just be hoping that the same fans fo HS Musical will follow them. But to remove Toby Mcquire and What's her face that played Mary Jane is an idiotic idea.

That is a total piss take.... without To-mag it's not spider-man! Zac Efron..... unless the new one's going to be a musical : / big mistake. And the only people who'll go see it are gay school musical fans.... because i definitely won't. I hope it fails.... proper style.

there is no way tht Efron can play Tobey's role!!!!!! nor Vanessa could play M.J!!!!!!!!! but if they do, it'll be a crap movie! every one will see a huge difference b/w Efron and Tobey!!! even i could play better than Zac! thts a BULL-SH*T!!!

First off, If anybody on here actually read the comics, TObey Maguire was a shitty Peter Parker. But I whole-heartedly agree that Zac Effron doesn't fit the part either. The role should have gone to Jake Gyllenhal from the start but they botched that up. Now that the series is taking Peter Parker back to high school I think they should get an unknown to play the role.
