Work has
begun on The Cutty Sark in Greenwich to protect it from the ravages of
time. After two years the vessel will be suspended above a futuristic
glass bubble allowing people to walk underneath the famous ship.
The £25
million Conservation Project is designed to preserve the historic
merchant ship built in 1869. Marine salts have had such a corrosive
impact on the vessel it needs a dramatic makeover to keep it in dock
at Greenwich.
