From August 1 - 31, 2005, Transmedia: 29:59, a public art initiative by Year Zero One in Toronto, will feature a a short film depicting real starfish dancing in a synchonized manner.

The film, MOVIE STARS, by Manu Luksch, was shot on a beach in Thailand, where hundreds of starfish were trained to move in a synchonized manner. The press release by Year Zero One writes that the dance is "reminiscent of the glamourous choreography" of "Hollywood Movies of the 1930s". The film will be shown at the 29th minute of each hour on a large public screen
in Dundas Square, at Yonge & Dundas Street in downtown Toronto.

The month of August will also feature media art by Jillian McDonald, airing each hour on the 59th minute.

The public art initiative, Transmedia 29: 59 , is an innovative program which aims to bring media art into public urban space in new ways. Year Zero One is an on-line artist run
centre which operates as a network for the dissemination of digital culture
and new media through web based exhibitions, site-specific public art
projects, and a media arts directory, as well as publications.

A 2 hour opening launch performance at Yonge-Dundas Square on August 3rd at 8 pm will feature vjs fluid & faux amie + music
by cyan & naw.
