Death Penalty: Pro/Con?

By special request, I've posted a discussion forum topic on your thoughts on the death penalty?  Should it be legal?  Should it be removed from practice?  What makes it right or wrong?  Has there been a situation in your life that has given you direct exposure to this subject?  What would you do differently?
