E&P is reporting that: "NEW YORK A delegation from the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) has met with jailed New York Times reporter Judith Miller in the Alexandria Detention Center. "At the end of our 30-minute conversation," said former NBC anchor Tom Brokaw, "it was emphatically clear that she is absolutely convinced that she made the right decision and is prepared to stay the course.""

The group made a statement saying that:

"...more than 120 journalists were imprisoned around
the world at the end of 2004, "primarily in China, Cuba, Eritrea, and
other countries where journalists are frequently locked up in the
course of practicing their profession." "

The irony here of course is that Miller is in jail for working WITH the government and not in opposition to it.  She is serving time for refusing to reveal a senior administration source in the Plame investigation where a covert CIA agent's cover was exposed to silence a government critic.

The chairman of the CMJ said, "There's no good purpose in keeping this dedicated, honorable, committed professional in jail."  I disagree.  Don't forget, the NY Times has itself admitted that Miller's reportage of Iraq's weapons program was bogus and their stories played a major role in leading the nation to war.  By having one less source of hysterical fear mongering I think we are a lot safer as a country.  I say the longer we keep her away from her typewriter the better.
