A Danville dentist has been sentenced to two years in prison for income-tax evasion and conspiring to defraud the government.

Roy Albert Lewis hid $300,000 over a 10-year period, according to the Internal Revenue Service.

On Friday, U.S. District Judge Susan Ilston ordered Lewis to participate in a mental health treatment program and perform 100 hours of community service upon his release.

The IRS said Lewis' medical practice paid bogus expenses to Tower Executive Resources, a Denver group that then deposited most of those funds in a secret offshore bank account that Lewis controlled, authorities said.

Lewis' father, oral surgeon Leroy Albert Lewis, was charged with similar crimes and is awaiting trial.
