Mohamed al Fayed has "upped" the stakes in his bid to find the truth about the death of Princess Diana and his son Dodi - Team Mole reporters take a look at the history behind the tragic deaths.

A formal request from lawyers acting for him has been made for access to all documents and material, including interview notes used to compile the Metropolitan Police report into the death of the Princess of Wales.

If the access wish is granted, it is likely that sensitive information released will include documents and other evidence from members of the Royal Family.

The investigation has taken three years and was coded "Operation Paget", and thought to have cost £Millions.

The Harrod's boss has continued to use a high level legal team to investigate the tragic deaths, of his son Dodi and the Princess - clearly, money is no object, and he is determined to establish the truth arising from the strange circumstances of the "accident" in France, which has resulted in so much controversy and speculation.

Conspiracy theorists have ranked the deaths alongside those of President Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe, and the stories will run and run.

Those who witnessed the emotional funeral of the Princess will never forget the dramatic scenes with huge crowds lining the roads from funeral service to burial place, bunch after bunch of flowers being thrown on top of the hearse and thousands and thousands of flowers trailing behind the hearse as it made its tragic long journey.

A four mile procession took her coffin to Westminster Abbey, where politicians and celebrities had joined the Royal Family in a subdued congregation.

it was estimated that over a million people lined the route of
the funeral cortege to the abbey and along her final journey to the
Spencer family home in Northamptonshire.

Many in the crowd openly wept, some applauded quietly, but most watched in silence, motorists came to a halt on main highways, parked their cars and stood with bowed heads as the hearse went by, such was the affect on members of the public and officials alike.

Nothing had previously made such an impact on the British public.

A defining moment in the history of the Royal Family, and an event that Prince Charles seems to have never recovered from.
