November 6, 2006 At 1313 hours NSWFB crews responded to a spill of diesel on the Sydney to Newcastle freeway, on the roundabout too Peat Island. Crews from Kariong and Berkeley Vale found a tip truck had run off the road into the mangroves and was leaking diesel and hydraulic fluid into the water. Crews set up spillage booms and absorbent material to mitigate fluid spread.
