Do you know the difference between an acronym and an abbreviation?

I've written a short article about abbreviations and acronyms being one of the trickier areas of accessibility to implement. I was going to wait for the amended version of the WCAG 2.0 guidelines but thought I'd publish and be damned, as it poses a lot of questions rather than answering any. Any feedback or comments welcome.
