School safety is a huge issue for concerned teachers and parents alike. Most are aware of the dangers that weapons and drugs can pose to our children. However, USA Today has uncovered a new and frightening threat to our children. One that your child might be participating in at this very moment. Tag.

Luckily, you can rest easy as many schools are moving to ban this recess scourge from their schools. Schools are also banning many other dangerous "contact" sports like soccer and touch football as well. Don't even ask about dodge ball.

Educators are worried sick about "kids running into one another." And tag is especially worrisome because it "progresses easily into slapping and hitting and pushing instead of just touching," says one easily petrified principal.

So what ARE the kids allowed to do a recess? Hopscotch? No chance. The uncoordinated ones can easily fall and skin a knee, not to mention the fact that the name clearly encourages drinking and hopping. Jump rope? Don't even think about it. All that rope only encourages tripping and the tying of nooses. Duck Duck Goose? You don't honestly want to allow small children to play a game that requires them to hit each other in the head and call each other names do you?
