Nintendo has announced that its DS console has become Europe’s fastest selling console of all time – reaching ten million sales in the EU just two months shy of the second anniversary of its launch.

The system sold 1.7 million units in the territory in December alone, ensuring that it comfortably ended 2006 as the best-selling console in the territory.

European marketing director for Nintendo Laurent Fischer said:

“This landmark figure of ten million Nintendo DS gamers cements the console’s position as undisputed leader of the handheld market, bringing gaming to a whole new audience - something that was unimaginable a few years ago.
