Wednesday afternoon a bucket fell from a crane in midtown Manhattan injuring 8.

Some streets near Bryant Park remain closed this evening after a bucket full of debris fell 53 stories from the roof of a construction site.

Just before 1:30 p.m., a bucket that was carrying construction debris fell from a crane on the roof of the soon-to-be Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park on Sixth Avenue between 43rd and 42nd Streets and plummeted to the sidewalk below.

According to the Department of Buildings, the bucket hit the building on its way down knocking glass and debris loose.

Some streets in the area remain closed to traffic. Earlier, Metro Traffic said 42nd Street between Fifth Avenue and Broadway and Sixth Avenue from 42nd to 43rd were closed.

ryan nadel, probably a simple accident, but from such a great height caused carnage in the streets below. Reminds me of the saying, never walk under a ladder, except in this case its a crane which is 53 floors above.
