At midnight on Christmas Eve neighbors woke up to a blaze in their carport at the 1600 block of 5th Street in Oxnard, CA. The fire destroyed 8 cars and the heat damaged 8 others in the adjacent carport. The blaze spread to an appartment near by and they had to evacuate 10 people for a short amount of time. The firefighters had the blaze under control in about 20 minutes and saved the surrounding structures and limited the damage to the other cars. A resident had stated that this had happened about a year ago along with brake ins and management still refuses to get security. The damages is totalling about 300,000.

I assume you mean that the same thing happened last year and not that the fire you are reporting on happened last year.
