The Calgary Herald has put together an excellent feature on the deaths and dangers of avalanches this year in B.C. and Alberta called 'The Killing Season'. Experts are united in their predictions that this will be one of the worst years ever.
With 10 people dead -- including four in two days -- in Alberta and B.C. avalanches this year, it's the worst start to an avalanche season in about 30 years. Experts tell the Herald a deep, unstable layer of snow and the weather cycle this winter have made alpine conditions especially dangerous.
