Power Outage Hits Residences at SFU Burnaby
October 24th 2007, Burnaby, BC - At roughly 5:00 this morning a power outage hit the residences at Burnaby mountain. I awoke at the time to the beeping of my computer's surge-protector and a blank alarm clock staring me in the face. While an early morning certainly did not please me, I was able to set my cell phone alarm to insure I would be ready to go for my classes. I was a lucky one, as there are many other problems caused by this. The most obvious being that many students were late for, or entirely missed, early classes due to their alarms not going off. What makes this even worse is that many students have mid-terms right now. Students may have missed valuable information regarding their mid-term or, even worse, their actual mid-term.
I have noticed a few power outages at the campus recently as the weather takes a turn towards more of a winter climate. It would be nice if the city or the university could look into finding a way to maintain power through a better power grid or something along those lines. Until then, make use of your cell phone's alarm, just in case your alarm clock gets taken out.
