The Kangaroo Island bushfires in South Australia continue to burn and the prospects are about 50/50. Cool weather is predicted for the next few days but 38°C (100°F) is predicted for Friday so a lot of fingers are being crossed. Three hundred additional fire fighters have been brought into South Australia from neighbouring state Victoria - all volunteers and greatly appreciated by weary local crews. The aftermath in the Western River area is not pretty. All photos Copyright © 2007 Elizabeth Johnswood.

Rikx, excellent photos -- good stuff. How much longer are the fires expected to burn?

Hi Brian,
We are really hoping they will be out before Friday when 38°C (100°F) is expected. There are 3 or 4 fires on the island, two of which are likely to combine. Strong northerly winds would be the real killer. Fingers crossed.
