Not a real surprise that driving conditions were so terrible, it's been freezing cold and blowing snow on and off all week here in Toronto.

Whiteout conditions were a factor Sunday for a multi-car pileup on a stretch of highway about an hour north of Toronto that left numerous passengers with broken limbs and back and neck injuries.

A half-kilometre stretch of the northbound lanes of Highway 400 near Bradford was littered with the wreckage of about 50 cars and trucks, Ontario Provincial Police said. About 30 vehicles were in another pileup north of that location, police said. The Toronto Star reported a third pileup involving 15 vehicles.

"It's like a scrapyard out here — vehicles everywhere, some in the
ditch. It's unbelievable," OPP Const. Dave Woodford told CBC Newsworld.

There were "multiple injuries," some serious, but none considered life-threatening, he said.

"We have neck and back injuries, he said. "We have people with
broken arms, broken legs. There are serious injuries to a lot of
people."

Rob Walker, I like this story. An excellent report...wow what a story! Winter driving can be

challenging in that area at times.

Rob Walker,  Good stuff.

I remember white out and ice fog when I was doing seasonal affective Disorder research in Alaska.  I remember running into a snow bank when I thought I was driving straight.  I was surprised that cognitive skills were affected.  Optically I thought I was on the road going toward my work whuch was 1/2 mile away.  I sure am sorry for these folks.

I agree. this article is a go0d stuff especially for people near Ontario highway. Accidents are getting severe in that place so why not make some necessary measures to avoid it. Got read related articles from ways to save gas blog. -Chelsea.
