England stay alive on Beckham bender

A free kick by David Beckham gave a flat England side a 1-0 victory over Ecuador in the Round of 16 in Stuttgart on Sunday on perhaps the hottest day of the tournament so far. England were certainly better early on as they controlled the ball, but they failed to create any scoring chances as Ecuador predicted their moves as all the play was directed at lone striker Wayne Rooney.
