If only Steve McClaren had been in charge during the world cup, eh? The majestic Beckham is no more, and as a result the English team showed flair, style and - most importantly - the long-awaited ability to get the ball in the back of the net. Lampard? Where were you in Germany? Anyway, bitterness and galacticos aside, it's just good there's football again.
England made a flying start under new boss Steve McClaren with a four-goal first-half blast to beat Greece.John Terry marked his first match as captain by nodding in the opening goal after Stewart Downing had headed the ball into the penalty area.
