Legendary Lovers Rock Reggae singer Tyrone Taylor aged 50, passed away on December 1st 2007 from complication due to prostrate cancer.

The raspy voiced crooner was popularly known for the self produced hit “cottage in negril”, which became an international runaway hit in the early eighties. He began recording in the mid 70’s and earned the respect of some of reggae’s top producers of the time. However it was not until he recorded the single “cottage in negril” did Tyrone Taylor earn international acclaim. The single which paid homage to the sleepy town in western Jamaica, was a primary catalyst for the area’s surge in tourism during the 80’s.

From then Tyrone Taylor retreated to UK and Europe where he enjoyed a successful career, appearing on numerous compilations and stage appearances before returning to Jamaica in the early 90’s.In 1994 he sparked the charts with the sultry “Rainy Sunset”, but soon suffered a stroke that stopped short his resurgence.

Depressed and under financial constraints, Taylor succumbed to substance abuse which eventually sidelined his career. However, Gladstone Wright of Reflections Music, noted for the Jah Cure hit single “reflections”, took the artistes under his wing and recorded a full length album containing new material and a few renditions.

Sadly Tyrone Taylor fell ill before its release.

He will be deeply missed.
