As an unabashed "Law & Order" junkie, finding out that Angie Harmon (once the wonderful ADA Abbie Carmichael) would be playing a detective on a new murder mystery series, I had to check it out.  I'm really glad I did.  "Women's Murder Club" - despite the rather cheesy title - is really a pretty nifty little show.  It's nothing fancy or ground-breaking, but for a quiet Friday night, it's nice, fairly lighthearted, TV snack.

The focus is on four women - a detective, a medical examiner, an ADA and a reporter - who work together to solve crimes in San Francisco.  The leads are all likeable - though Laura Harris' Jill is a bit overly perky for my tastes - and the story moves along at a fairly quick pace - pausing occasionally for some "girl talk" about relationships and being too dedicated to the job.  But when the situation calls for it, the women are all top-notch professionals and have a lot of the strength and toughness that crime-solvers need.

Usually, a pilot episode is pretty slow, bogged down in introducing characters and how or why they know each other, but Women's Murder Club chose to eschew this tradition and just jumped right into the story, knowing the audience would follow right along.  Hopefully, future episodes will be as fun as this one - if so, my DVR just got busier on Friday nights!
